725 S. 32nd Street, Fort Dodge, IA 50501

We are a "no-kill" shelter, which means we have limited space for cats and dogs. We cannot immediately take every animal that is in need. When an animal comes to the shelter, they will remain here until they are adopted. Sometimes it can take several months for an animal to find their forever home. Our longest resident was Sweat Pea, who was with us for 2 years before she found her forever home! We are happy to say that Sweat Pea has recently moved to Hawaii with her family and is as happy as can be!

Please make sure that surrendering your pet is the absolute last option you have. You can call us for help or suggestions to make it work with your pet. We would much rather your pet stay home with you instead of coming to the shelter, but we realize that sometimes there is no other choice. That is why we are here!

If you have a pet you need to surrender, please call in advance (515-955-8343) to see if we have space available. If we do not, please be patient. We are more than happy to put you on our waiting list! Our cattery is usually at maximum capacity and the waiting list can be quite long. Please understand that as we have animals adopted, we will call from the waiting list to fill the available space. We go through the waiting list by date, so it may take a while before we come to your name.

We do not charge an incoming fee, so please donate anything you can. We are a non-profit organization that receives NO funding from the city, county, state, or federal government. We also receive NO funding from the Humane Society of the United States. Your donations will help provide food, shelter, veterinary care, and so much more for your pet while they stay at Almost Home.

If we do not have room for your pet you can check with other shelters in Iowa. For a list of Iowa shelters, visit
